Coaching and Refereeing

"Coaches can influence a participant's enjoyment of the game more than anyone else.
They teach the skills, foster passion and lead like-minded lovers of football.
Whether taking on a local team or kicking-off a career, you can help shape the next generation".

Coaching courses

Regularly conducted throughout Queensland by FQ dedicated technical staff. In support of Football Australia’s future aim of 100,000 registered coaches, Football Queensland embraces coaches from grassroots to the elite level and is committed to improving the coaching experience received by players.

COMMUNITY COACHING PATHWAY

The community coaching pathway is designed for coaches whose involvement in football is largely at the grassroots level. Even if community coaches are not looking to pursue a career in the game, they can receive assistance and training in the preparation, organisation and conduct of safe, age-specific training sessions through community coaching courses.

Community courses are short, easily accessible and low-cost, with coaches able to enter the pathway appropriate to the age group they will be coaching.

Football Queensland continues to invest in refereeing to provide opportunities for people to get involved in the world game, start a rewarding career, be nurtured with development opportunities and supported with highly qualified coaching staff.

Within refereeing there are three areas to choose from – community refereeing, advanced refereeing and becoming an assessor or instructor.

Community refereeing is directed towards officials working within local amateur competitions. This pathway begins with the Laws of the Game, and Level 4 and Level 3 courses. These qualifications prepare referees to officiate in junior, youth and lower divisions of senior football.

WHY BECOME A REFEREE?

  • Build vital skills including teamwork, communication and fitness

  • Stay involved in football beyond playing

  • Understand the game on a different level

  • Opportunities for a national and international career
